Remembering Frances Doig

A memorial service celebrating the life of Frances Doig will be held on
October 20, 2026 at 11AM at Bit by Bit Farm, 214 Norwood Lane, Elgin, TX.

Celebrating Frances

When Frances came to Austin, she began riding at Hobby Horse Stables. At that time, Centex was already well established, with horse shows being held at Cedarwood Stables and many other venues throughout the area.

Frances went on to establish a barn at St. Stephen’s and later at Spartan Farms near Coupland, where she hosted many Centex horse shows. She became an integral part of the Centex community and a longtime member of the Board of Directors.

Frances continued riding throughout her life and remained deeply involved in the horse show community until her passing. She was widely known as an exceptional judge, paddock master, and announcer—someone any horse show was fortunate to have. Her knowledge, dedication, humor, and love for the sport touched countless people.

Frances served the Board as a Director Emeritus and was a beloved and familiar presence at the annual banquet. She never missed a banquet and was always genuinely happy to be there. She generously supported the organization year after year, including donating generously to the silent auction.

Frances was much more than a participant in the horse community—she was a cherished part of its history and its heart. Her friendship, generosity, dedication, and unmistakable presence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was loved by all, and she is greatly missed.
